CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
What is it and how does it impact us, our customers and the Planet?
Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR for short, aims to ensure that companies conduct their business in a way that is ethical and in compliance with local, national and internationally accepted standards. This means taking account of their social, economic and environmental impact.
At Massey’s House Clearance our CSR policy dictates that on a wider scale we do NOTHING to damage our planet.
At local level this starts with us ensuring that our vans run lean burn engines ( We operate using a low emission 2018 vehicle) so that we can ‘do our bit’ to help vehicle pollution. It also means that everything we clear from our customers homes is very carefully sorted by hand, recycled and/or reused wherever possible. Inevitably there are some end-of-life items (and sadly that does include plastics) that do have to find their final resting place in a registered landfill site.
We are proud of the way we attend to the smallest detail and here are just some of them:
1. Clothing, bags, shoes, belts etc are sorted and bundled into leather, wool, nylon, cotton etc and either recycled or donated to charity, the latter accounting for the final destination of 80%-90% wearable items that we clear from domestic properties.
2. Wood is responsibly disposed of at a registered waste site. This costs us hard cash but as many wooden items of furniture are treated with varnish, dyes or glues, we DO NOT indiscriminately burn wood during the hours of darkness like so many so called ‘professional’ house clearance outfits. It saves them money but costs the planet far more.
3. Books are donated to charity but magazines, paper and cardboard are recycled and pulped to produce tomorrow’s paper.
4. Bric-a-Brac and general household items that can be reused are donated to various charities within Dorset and Hampshire, we are also very proud to support Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and donate all our jigsaws to a local neighbour who holds a sale every 3 months in aid of this great cause.
The last sale raised over £600!!
Adherence to CSR is a way for all House Clearance companies to address pollution and waste issues. Sadly very few even have a policy, let alone follow it.
