“My mother recently died and we used Massey's for the flat clearance. We could not be more pleased with their service at such a stressful time. The team were friendly and respectful and took the time to understand our needs. They were incredibly organised and efficient and completed the job in super quick time. They made a potentially overwhelming task, at a difficult time, manageable.”

House clearance after bereavement, handled with care
We know that every item in a loved one's home can carry memories. Our bereavement clearance service lets you set the pace. You can be there for the clearance, or you can leave it all to us.
Before we start, we'll walk through the property with you or your representative. We'll note anything you want to keep, anything that needs setting aside for family members, and any paperwork, photographs or personal items you'd like returned. Then we do the sorting, lifting, loading, recycling and responsible disposal for you.
We regularly work with families, executors, solicitors, probate professionals and estate agents. Together we make sure the property is cleared properly and is ready to sell, let or hand back.

Discreet from start to finish
Some clearance companies break furniture up on the driveway and throw it into an open tipper truck. For families, that can be very upsetting to watch, and the neighbours see it too.
At Massey's, we carefully carry items out to our enclosed, sign-written Luton van. A loved one's belongings are treated with dignity, out of public view, and the property is left clean and tidy.

Valuables and resale items: helping to reduce the cost
Where a loved one's possessions have resale value, we may be able to buy them or take their value off the clearance cost. These often include:
Antiques and collectables
Artwork and prints
Quality and period furniture
Clocks, ceramics and glassware
Other items of value
We're always open and transparent about valuations, so you know exactly how the final price has been worked out.

As licensed waste carriers, we dispose of anything that can't be reused lawfully and responsibly.

Bereavement house clearance FAQs
-
There's no set timescale. Many families wait until probate is granted or the property is ready for sale. Check with the executor or solicitor before removing anything of value. If there's a deadline, for example from a landlord or care provider, we'll do our best to work to it.
-
Not always, but it's sensible to have the executor's agreement before clearing anything, especially items of value. Your solicitor can tell you what applies in your situation. We're happy to work directly with executors and solicitors.
-
No. You're welcome to be there, but many customers aren't, particularly if they live some distance away. We can collect keys, agree the details in advance and let you know once the property is clear.
-
We keep an eye out for paperwork, photographs, jewellery and sentimental items as we work, and set aside anything that looks important. Even so, we recommend that family members remove anything they definitely want to keep before the clearance.
-
Yes. Where antiques, collectables, artwork or quality furniture have resale value, we may buy them or offset their value against the clearance cost. In some cases this can significantly reduce the overall price.
-
It depends on the size of the property, how much there is to clear, access, location and whether any items have resale value. We give you a clear, free quote after seeing the property. We'll also beat any like-for-like written quote from a reputable local company.
-
Yes. Once the clearance is complete, we give the property a free sweep and vacuum, so it's ready for valuation, sale or handover.
